syntAX

Introducing syntAX...part synth, part interactive sonic revolution. A massive, expansive, and complex collection of electronic textures, the core of syntAX is a 2000+ patch synth library covering an immense amount of synth territory, including soaring leads, evolving pads, thick basses, harsh distortions, unusual textures, other-worldly atmospheres, FX, hits, blips, and more.

Then syntAX blazes into new territory with its custom scatterFX engine which allows real-time manipulation and interaction with the syntAX core library. scatterFX is made up of two components: scatFX and stepFX. scatFX gives you unprecedented control over rhythmic stuttering, allowing you to program, play, and command rhythmic patterns of syntAX. stepFX functions as an advanced step modulator allowing you to melodically animate pattern-based arpeggiations. Both scatFX and stepFX lock to tempo and can be controlled by numerous external MIDI controllers, making the synth completely interactive.

syntAX goes far beyond where synthesizers have gone before. With a massive core library (designed by the renowned sonic sculptors at Bunker 8 Digital Labs) that goes far beyond traditional synthesis types, and an easily tweakable engine that multiplies the possibilities, syntAX is a new breed of synthesizer that puts the power in the hands of the synth enthusiast. syntAX is complex synthesis, but effortless creation.

The sound library for syntAX was designed by renowned international sound designers Bunker 8 Digital Labs. Using numerous forms of synthesis and complex combinations and layers of sound design, the library includes more than 2000 innovative and fresh synth patches.

Navigating through the library is made easy via the folder organization, which subdivides all available patches into the following categories:

  • Arp Attacks
  • Atmospheres
  • Basses (mono and poly)
  • Distortions
  • FX and Hits
  • Leads (mono and poly)
  • Pads
  • Phat and Filtered
  • SyntOrchestra
  • Textures

An expansion pack for the factory syntAX library is now available, called Complex Evolution. Click on the Expand tab to donload it.

Each patch features full control over the master lowpass filter via the mod wheel, and over envelope behaviors via MIDI CC. All of these parameters can be altered in real time.

scatterFX is the revolutionary interactive engine that is available within every patch of the syntAX library. Designed from the ground up in Kontakt's scripting language, scatterFX brings unprecedented rhythmic and melodic control over the syntAX library.

scatterFX is the sum of two component parts: scatFX, which allows for real-time stuttering and rhythmic patterns, and stepFX, which allows for melodic animation and arpeggiation. Both scatFX and stepFX are independently available; each patch loads with both engines bypassed by default, then each engine can be turned on and off as desired, and can be fully controlled via external MIDI continuous controllers.

scatFX is the real-time stutterer and rhythmic pattern generator of the syntAX engine. Designed as a real-time tempo-synced programmable gate, the performer can draw custom rhythmic patterns into the interface, then specify the strength (gateFX), the pitch alteration (pitchFX), and a turntable-inspired independent and intelligent speed control (speedFX).

stepFX is an advanced step modulator allowing for realtime pitch animation of the syntAX library. Custom melodic patterns can be drawn in, or recorded in real time using the Record Notes feature. Pitch quantization is optionally available to lock incoming notes to specific scales.

Almost all parameters shown onscreen in scatFX and stepFX are also controllable and programmable via external MIDI continuous controllers, making the library truly live performance-ready. Reach out and touch...syntAX.

Almost every parameter in the syntAX interface can also be remotely controlled via MIDI CC, making syntAX a true reach-out-and-touch experience.

  • Kontakt Player 2 engine, supporting standalone operation as well as plug-in operation in all major hosts that support AudioUnit, VST, RTAS, or DXi plug-ins
  • Special upgrade pricing to the full version of Kontakt 3, which allows for fuller editing of the instruments

syntAX is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms and includes the standalone Kontakt Player 2 application as well as AudioUnit, VST, RTAS, and DXi plug-ins. All of these versions ship in the same box.

The Macintosh version requires a G4 1.4gHz or faster, 512MB of RAM, a DVD drive, and OS 10.4.x or higher. It ships as a Universal Binary and is fully compatible with Intel Macs. For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a G5 or Intel-powered Mac, and a minimum of 1GB of RAM. The library requires 3.6GB of free hard drive space.

The Windows version requires a processor speed of 1.4gHz or higher, 512MB of RAM, a DVD drive, and Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista 32-bit. For optimum performance, Vir2 Instruments recommends a minimum of 1GB of RAM. The library requires 3.6GB of free hard drive space.

syntAX will run in standalone mode and is also compatible with every major sequencing package in the world, including but not limited to: Apple Logic and GarageBand, MOTU Digital Performer, Digidesign Pro Tools (TDM, LE, and M-Powered), Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, Ableton Live, and more.
